Candle Stick Markers (CSM's)

Candle Stick Markers (CSM's) are a low-cost, close-range photogrammetric marker used by police investigators and accident reconstruction practitioners.

CSM's were designed for accident reconstruction mapping, using the iWitness photogrammetry software system. In the below example, State Police used CSM's for a crash that occurred at night.

The trooper photogrammetrically imaged the scene with a digital camera, while the CSM's worked flawlessly in wind speeds of almost 40 MPH (64 KPH). CSM's are easily "reference-marked" in iWitness from night imaging, due to the material used being retroreflective, allowing them to be seen from tens of meters away.

The CSM base is made from nylon, with the vertical post made from plastic, wrapped with a special retro-reflective material. The retro-reflective material allows for easy night imaging, when using a tripod with the camera set for long time exposure.

The CSM post slips into the base, for fast deployment and easy storage. The nylon base has anti-slip tape to help resist movement during extremely windy conditons.
