iWitness and iWitnessPRO - Version 2
Bellevue, WA. November 10th, 2010 - DeChant Consulting Services and Photometrix, a Division of Geodetic Systems, announce the release of Version 2 for both iWitness and iWitnessPRO software systems. Since its release in 2004, iWitness has grown in popularity to become the premier close-range photogrammetry software for a host of image-based measurement tasks. iWitness employs inexpensive, off-the-shelf digital cameras to perform accurate 3D measurements in a wide range of application areas, including traffic accident reconstruction, forensics, dimensional inspection in engineering and construction, architectural measurement, heritage recording and model building for the animation industry. The simple yet powerful user interface, coupled with the accurate and reliable photogrammetric engine, which runs automatically, in the background, has made iWitness a very popular choice for 3D measurement. iWitness also contains a module for automatic camera calibration, providing the critical parameters for use within iWitness itself, or for export to other software.
The level of automation available in the iWitness system was significantly enhanced in early 2008 with the release of iWitnessPRO, which provides fully automatic 3D measurement of object point arrays, thus reducing project data processing time from 10s of minutes (or hours, for large projects) down to minutes and even less than a minute in many cases. Full automation allows more images and points to be used, which further enhances 3D measurement accuracy and reliability.
Numerous improvements have been incorporated in Version 2 of both iWitness and iWitnessPRO, leading to greater functionality, operator ease of use and speed. Moreover, many new features have been added, including the ability to utilize geographic coordinates from GPS so that projects can be visualized in Google Earth, and the ability to link up to 12 adjacent measurement networks into a single, common coordinate system. This is a particularly useful feature in highway traffic accident reconstruction. Automatic measurement of non-target feature points has also been added to iWitnessPRO, and both software packages are now supplied with separate utility programs, XYRectify and Zaraf, for 2D image measurement and rectification, and for photogrammetrically processing scanned film images, respectively.
Existing and prospective users are encouraged to contact DeChant Consulting Services (DCS, http://www.iwitnessphoto.com), for more details.
